Summary

Was there a beginning of time? Could time run backwards? Is the universe infinite or does it have boundaries?
These are just some of the questions considered in the internationally acclaimed masterpiece by the world renowned physicist - generally considered to have been one of the world's greatest thinkers。 It begins by reviewing the great theories of the cosmos from Newton to Einstein, before delving into the secrets which still lie at the heart of space and time, from the Big Bang to black holes, via spiral galaxies and strong theory。 To this day A Brief History of Time remains a staple of the scientific canon, and its succinct and clear language continues to introduce millions to the universe and its wonders。
This new edition includes recent updates from Stephen Hawking with his latest thoughts about the No Boundary Proposal and offers new information about dark energy, the information paradox, eternal inflation, the microwave background radiation observations, and the discovery of gravitational waves。

I get why it's revered but I've connected more with other astronomy books。 It becomes too detail orientated near the end serving as an overview of a very narrow field。 I get why it's revered but I've connected more with other astronomy books。 It becomes too detail orientated near the end serving as an overview of a very narrow field。 。。。more

I steel reading it, I think it is a book directed to students and professors who, knowledge in sciences, especially physic。 so, I want to tell people who want to read this book: it is not for enjoying reading but for improving and getting information。 however, the book is still very good to read。

One of the best scientific write up on origin and mysteries of universe itself, time and space。

This book is able to provide limpid explanations, in my opinion, to some of the most interesting questions about physic and astronomy。 If you are interested in these topics but can't bother much about complicated mathematical formulas and you just want a simple but complete answer to your questions, this is the right book。 This book is able to provide limpid explanations, in my opinion, to some of the most interesting questions about physic and astronomy。 If you are interested in these topics but can't bother much about complicated mathematical formulas and you just want a simple but complete answer to your questions, this is the right book。 。。。more

Too complicated for my simple mind。 But I did enjoy the bits that I could understand。

intriguing。 now maybe if i understood physics to literally any extent at all

This book is a hard read, though I did find bits of it interesting, glad I made the attempt to read it even though I might not have understood everything

bit hard to grasp some of the concepts without knowing the math (like infinite curvature of space time) but gave me a whole new perspective on physics

Engaging narration by Micheal Jackson, except for maybe chapter 6 and 7, where things got dry and you can tell even the narrator was bored。Some of the concepts were new and interesting (light cones, spin, the nuances of event horizons) and others went over my head (antiparticles, CPT, some aspects of string theory)。 I look forward to reviewing my notes and studying further。 At some point, I also want to read A Briefer History of Time for better diagrams and explanations

Um。 I’m sure this is very very good if you’re really really really into physics。

Monumental book, the original。 Has some common text parts with the "briefer" version but goes deeper。 Monumental book, the original。 Has some common text parts with the "briefer" version but goes deeper。 。。。more

I understood next to nothing but it was extremely interesting and fascinating nonetheless。

Quá hay, nhiều thông tin khoa học thú vị。

So I don’t think I’m really qualified to leave a review for this because it was very out of my league。 I understood most of it though and felt like Hawking does a great job of explaining everything!

Informatii interesante despre univers, natura lui si istoria lui。 Din pacate, unele explicatii au fost prea stiintifice si le-am putut urmari mai greu。

Good book to understand some core physical theories that guide the world today and to get a look into the theories of tomorrow。 Probably best if you have at least AP level physics knowledge。 Might be a tough read otherwise。

A Brief History of Time is the best science book I've ever read。 In this book The Theory of black holes is explained in a 'light' and easy to understand with a picture of the concepts that do not make a headache。 Each material is described specifically, moreover, this book was written by one of the best physicists in history, namely Stephen Hawking。Broadly speaking, this book describes the theories of Physics, A Brief History of time and human efforts in understanding nature began gradually and A Brief History of Time is the best science book I've ever read。 In this book The Theory of black holes is explained in a 'light' and easy to understand with a picture of the concepts that do not make a headache。 Each material is described specifically, moreover, this book was written by one of the best physicists in history, namely Stephen Hawking。Broadly speaking, this book describes the theories of Physics, A Brief History of time and human efforts in understanding nature began gradually and structured each chapter, starting at the opening of the Greek era, namely Aristotle to Newton until the 20th century。In this book Stephen Hawking seeks to answer big questions such as about the universe began what started it? Until, what happens when the universe ends? There is an interesting chapter 4, which explains the rule of uncertainty, "The rule of uncertainty has a huge impact on the way we look at the world。 In general, quantum mechanics does not predict an obvious outcome for an observation。"Section Chapter 12 is a conclusion from the beginning to Chapter 11, the contents of this chapter summarizes all the explanations of the book。In fact, the book is not as complicated as it might seem from the title。 Even for ordinary people though this book is interesting to read, because the author arranges it in a structured and clear so that even ordinary readers can understand what is explained by the author。 。。。more

During World War I, Winston Churchill was fired from the admiralty。 Lord Fisher, who Churchill respected immensely, came up to him as he was packing his stuff up and told him, ‘whatever else they might say, you had the fleet ready。 They can’t take that away from you。’In 2011, when my mental challenges forced me to resign from engineering, I always wanted a Lord Fisher to come up to me and say, ‘Whatever else they might say, you were a good engineer。 They can’t take that away from you。’The reason During World War I, Winston Churchill was fired from the admiralty。 Lord Fisher, who Churchill respected immensely, came up to him as he was packing his stuff up and told him, ‘whatever else they might say, you had the fleet ready。 They can’t take that away from you。’In 2011, when my mental challenges forced me to resign from engineering, I always wanted a Lord Fisher to come up to me and say, ‘Whatever else they might say, you were a good engineer。 They can’t take that away from you。’The reason I say this is because I have a love/hate relationship with technical books。 They remind me of a career I left long ago。 I know the Lord has better things in store for me, and I was a moody egomaniac as an engineer, I won’t deny that, but sometimes it’s hard to leave things in the past。Anyway, outstanding book。 Checked it out from Libby。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

Definitely mind-changing book on how to view time。 Very intriguing the occasional run-ins Hawkings has with religion in this book; but, makes sense as physics tries to tackle the questions related to the universe's essence。 Good read for the curious mind。 Definitely mind-changing book on how to view time。 Very intriguing the occasional run-ins Hawkings has with religion in this book; but, makes sense as physics tries to tackle the questions related to the universe's essence。 Good read for the curious mind。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 It's still complicated to wrap your head around and science is ever changing making it that much harder to fully grasp some concepts but books with information like this always feel like a gift when I read them。 Also I find it interesting how Carl Sagan says in the introduction how this book is completely against the idea of a creator and some kind of atheist manifesto when I didn't read that at all。 I'm not a religious person but Hawking left multiple areas open for I really enjoyed this book。 It's still complicated to wrap your head around and science is ever changing making it that much harder to fully grasp some concepts but books with information like this always feel like a gift when I read them。 Also I find it interesting how Carl Sagan says in the introduction how this book is completely against the idea of a creator and some kind of atheist manifesto when I didn't read that at all。 I'm not a religious person but Hawking left multiple areas open for people's choice to believe in a God or creator, though the science was against it in many aspects, he explains the avenue where a designer or creator could fit in to the equation and how。 I thought that was nice。4 very in depth info dumps out of 5 "oh no it can't be over yet"s 。。。more
